T-shirts, anyone?!
Jan 7 2009, 8:53 PM EST | Post edited: Jan 7 2009, 8:53 PM EST
From my theater and church youth group background I have learned that no event is complete without a new T-shirt!
So: What do you all think about designing a shirt for the charter members of the 180 team at Southeast? Anyone inspired to take this on as a Project board item and see if there's enough interest?

I'm up for it if the team wants them. Let's here some student feedback.

I use the same tee shirt guy that many schhol groups use: the Bradshers with G&F Marketing. Prices are great and kids love the selection- if the design is the same, students could choose the garment for it to be printed on. To view these garments, and the colors offered, go to www.broderbros.com on the left hand margin of their homepage, inside the t-shirt labeled "search our catalog", type in each stock number above and click "go". To view colors, "click" color chart and colors will be shown. We can look at other tee shirt folks but I doubt we can beat the price, service, and quality. You can e-mail them the design and they invoice after shipment. super easy...

I suppose a logo for the shirt would be obvious...

What colors would be preferred? We might want to set up a vote, what colors people like and whatnot.

And how much would they cost?

Yes, you're welcome to use the logos we've already designed or create your own. Under photos, there's an album of logos. We need a volunteer who can work with PhotoShop at least a little. Or, one team member could design it on paper and another who knows PhotoShop could scan it and edit it as a jpeg. Ideas? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I love the idea, and I ESPECIALLY love the idea that you have of putting the responsibility completely in the hands of one or two 180 students. Great 1st authentic leadership opportunity---who's stepping up to coordinate??

Well, it depends on how many we order, what kind of shirt, and how many color the design has in it. If we go with the tee shirt guys I use with NAHS, they allow you choices in tee shirt colors and types. See my earlier response above. So, in order words, one student could get a long sleeved blue tee shirt and another could get a hunter green hoodie with the same screen print on it. No one has expressed any ideas on designs... IDEAS? Go to the gallery and look at the existing 180 logos. Consider a simple logo on the front and maybe even a quote on the back. What would y'all like? Do you find this valuable?

I forgot to mention cost. The guy I work with could probably do a short sleeve for under $10, long sleeve for about $15, and hoodie for about $20 or so. Again, it will depend on how many colors are in the design. One tool you could use is a survey if you want to find out what everyone wants. We could do one in class and Brown's team could do one. Or, you could do an online survey... see widgets. I first think someone needs to step up and volunteer to facilitate this. Volunteers? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

someone has said the current idea for a shirt is a white polo with the logo on the front. i see two problems with this -

1- white polos look too professional for this class. i think that we should consider a different color polo or just a t-shirt (the original idea)

2- With a polo, we wouldn't be able to put a slogan, quote, or picture on the back, we are limited to a single logo on the front. with a t-shirt, we could have a small logo on the front of the shirt and then a large picture with a quote or slogan of some sort on the back.

my ideal t-shirt for this class would be a white t-shirt with the protractor logo on the front, then a picture or different logo on the back, in addition to a slogan or quote.

Thoughts?

I think I somewhat prefer the idea of a t-shirt as well. I'm not entirely opposed to the idea of a polo either, though. Given that we are a leadership class, and as leaders we want to look professional, a polo would help promote that image. This is a fun class though, with people who like to have fun doing what they're doing, and I think a t-shirt would be just as acceptable (as long as there wasn't anything too extravagant on the shirt, I suppose).

I actually really like this logo: http://180degrees.wetpaint.com/photo/3423877/180+Logo - although it looks a little cut off on the side (who made that image?) but that may be a little too detailed to put on a polo (it would have to be smaller on the shirt). It would look good on the back of a t-shirt though, I think.

I'm not really sure though, just my opinion...

I think we should stand out compared to other clubs/groups if we wore polo's, as they would compliment our abilities as leaders. Dressing professionally is important, and on many occasions a person's clothes will create a first impression. Either way, the shirts will be payed for, so one should take into consideration that polo's cost more and are of better quality---but will not have to be payed for. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. i agree with the polo idea because having T-shirts with huge designs on them is something that EVERY other group does and 180 is something completely different from any other group/club
we should strive to stand out

I thought we had created a 'win-win' solution to the polo vs. tee shirt debate by allowing a choice for both.

Let's add another layer to the decision to be made- embroidery versus silk screen. For a professional looking collared shirt, we may want to consider embroidery (I'll bring an example for my team). I asked for a price quote for that as well as the silk screen. My suggestion, either choose a polo with embroidery on the front right (where a pocket would be) or to the tee shirt with silk screen. I haven't asked about the quote on the back but I'll do that as well. Here's the e-mail from Ms. Bradsher (the tee shirt lady). I'll ask about the back but I need feedback about embroidery vs. silk screen. My suggestion is to make an executive decision (as a tee shirt committee) that represents the team. Bringing it to a vote will only delay matters.

Message:
Thanks so much for your email. We are glad to quote prices for your class shirts. If we go the embroidery route, using the Hanes Steadman shirt you attached, the prices would be:
24-36 shirts purchased $16.50 each
37 or more purchased $15.50 each

If we screen your design, making it a two-color design, we would need to use a jersey knit shirt (the one you attached is pique weave). Anvil offers a jersey knit shirt for men and ladies. Pricing would be:
24-48 shirts $15.00 each
49 or more shirts $13.00 each

We would need to add sales tax to the invoice, but these prices cover everything else. If these meet your expectations and want to move forward, let me know. Thanks again for contacting us!
