Spotlight on LeadershipThis is a featured page

[Untitled]Proposal: Leadership Spotlight

Rationale:
¨ Warm-up games have fulfilled their purpose: we have a strong team and a great repertoire of ice breakers/ team builders/warm ups to take into other leadership situations.
¨ There’s still a lot of value in having a short, relaxed activity at the beginning of each day as a centering activity
¨ 180 team members are ready for more autonomy and variety

Process: On a rotating basis, team members will be responsible for 5-10 minutes of programming for the team. Activities are not limited to but might include:

¨ A personal story about an experience with leadership
¨ A bio/anecdote about someone who has inspired/mentored you
¨ An activity related to a famous leader
¨ A current leadership issue from the global or national news, magazines, or our local town & school community
¨ A video or song clip
¨ An inspiring poem/quote/story
¨ A more “traditional” warm up
¨ A progress report from your current committees or activities
¨ A brief community service activity (petition, cards, letters, registrations, etc)
¨ Highlight a leadership or volunteer opportunity from our school or community

Standards:
¨ Thought, effort, and planning should go into your spotlight. This should not be an assignment where you just wing it
¨ Consult w/ team members or facilitator ahead of time if you need ideas
¨ Plan & request ahead of time any needed materials or changes in meeting space
¨ Adjust your plans according to what’s happening in the class and what else is being presented. Let’s not have day after day of the same kind of thing!

Thoughts? Ideas? Plus/Deltas? Write them here and turn ‘em in!

This is a good alternative activity for warm-ups and sounds like it will allow students to get more personal.
