Leadership Life Lessons (The 3 “L's”)
Initial Idea by Bria James

Purpose: “Leadership Life Lessons” are opportunities for team members to share or explore personal life skills that relate to the 180 degree curriculum. These lessons will also provide an opportunity to practice public speaking and serving as the facilitator for the day. Leadership life lessons will also prepare students take a more active role in their success and society. Because Mrs. Harrell is not facilitating, she can work with other team members for future LLL, student led activities, or committee projects.

7 Steps to Leadership Life Lessons:
1. DONE- Choose a topic and write a short paragraph for your mid-term portfolio.
2. After approval, a date will be given to present.
3. Research for activities to make it more interactive, planning, and preparation
4. Send Mrs. Harrell detailed proposal and directions one week prior to presentation (see formats for this above).
5. Practice presentation at home, with friends, or pull another student during a Q II day.
6. Serve as facilitator for a day
7. Short chat/ follow-up with Mrs. Harrell

Process: The 180 team brainstormed possible topics. Each student picked his/her own topic and then explored their topic through on the handbook/wiki, personal experiences, and past events. While the facilitator Mrs. Harrell may have some suggestions, topics will be left up to the student. Therefore each leader is different and can personalize the lesson to his/her own experiences. After topic has been researched, each student will have to create his/her very own activity that is related to the topic. The activity can be loosely based on the handbook or completely original. The activity must be well thought out and have a proposal with directions. The student will become the facilitator for the day and incorporate these lessons into the day's lesson. . Each student will propose their leadership lesson in a hand-written or typed proposal. This can be e-mailed or given in person to the facilitator one week before the assigned date to present. The purpose is to help you organize your topic as well as the rest of the period that you are facilitating. This proposal can take the form of:
  • An outline
  • A lesson plan
  • A meeting agenda
While several team leaders feel comfortable starting their LLL before we have clarified the process, this is still a work in progress. Some suggestions from Monday's issue bin justified major revisions on this process simplifying the research for the topic. Please let your feedback in the form of a discussion thread below.

We've revised the process quite a bit based on Monday's issue bin. Now that Dana has facilitated the class and shared his LLL, what feedback do you have on the process? Are the expectations clear?
Do you find this valuable?
