I joined this wiki because: I'm honored to be one of the facilitators for the pilot course at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School.
The best word to describe me is: inspired
My Mission Statement is best represented by my sketch on the left. I've written several mission statements over the years. This illustrates how I have to balance the many different roles in my life (mom, teacher, artist, advocate, etc) with my values. Each week, my Covey Compass lists the 'big rocks' I want to accomplish in each of these roles. Each day, I refer to this compass as I make my 'to do' list to help me stay grounded and focused on what's really important in my life.
My skills (what I have to offer a committee- example for you): Creative and great for brainstorming ideas, love contacting/ networking, love to talk in front of groups, graphic and art skills, and I love to sell an idea.
Favorite movies: Shag, Gone with the Wind, Harry Potter, Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire, Sixteen Candles, Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Freedom Writers, and Stand by Me.
Favorite TV shows: I spend a lot of time watching Noggin and Nick Jr but try to watch 24, Entourage, What Not to Wear, Chuck, CSI, X-files, Chelsea Lately, Greek, Joyce Meyer, Survivor, and Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
My hero(es): Joan of Arc, Leonardo da Vinci, Claude Monet, Mary Cassatt, and Georgia O'Keefe.
Other fascinating facts about me: My senior superlative was cutest nose (no kidding!), I won 'Best in Show' for professional artists at the 2007 NC State Fair, and I met my husband when we both waited tables at ECU.
What I hope to get from the 180 Degrees Program: To affect positive change. First, in myself. Then, in my students who then affect others and on and on...
If I could live anywhere, it would be: Honestly, I'm living in the perfect place to raise a family. But, I'd take a second home as a log cabin by a lake in the NC or VA mountains.
My dream job(s): My own private gallery down the street from where I live that offers a wide range of lessons and workshops to all ages, specializes in southern arts/crafts, mentors emerging artists, and serves as a community hub for creative activity. But, teaching art and 180 leadership at SRMHS is a pretty close second.
I have two sons that are the heaviest branch on my mission statement above. Ethan is 5 years old and Evan is 5 months old. Having two boys has completely changed me as an educator and a person! I find myself using the concepts we're exploring in the 180 program at home as often as I do in my professional life. When your work is your life's work, the lines are blurred.
Interests: All things art (of course), reading, gardening, playing with my two young sons, and (believe it or not) I actually LIKE teaching.
